Thank you for being a part of this inspiring community of watershed stewards – of volunteers, students, teachers, partners and leaders. We are so grateful. Over the years, you have played a key role in building The Watershed Project into a trusted local powerhouse for environmental education, urban greening, climate resiliency, and shoreline stewardship for the San Francisco Bay Watershed.
If you’re a nature-lover, advocate for children, or supporter of education, please make a donation before 2019 ends or jumpstart your holiday shopping with a great gift from our silent auction. Whether it allows one child or a whole class to learn outside, it will make a world of difference to those children.
At too many of our Bay Area schools, children learn and play in a stifling classroom or barren asphalt schoolyard. With your support, The Watershed Project is giving kids a breath of fresh air by bringing them outside into nature, and by bringing nature into schoolyards.
Each year, 1,500 K-12 students – from schools who otherwise don’t have these opportunities – venture out of the classroom and into backyard ecosystems through our environmental education programs. We host dozens of no-cost field trips at local parks, prioritizing schools in greatest need of science and outdoor education opportunities. We also remove asphalt on school playgrounds to plant gardens and trees, bringing much-needed shade and beauty to a pavement desert.
This spring, we hope to host a record number of field trips, but we can’t do it without you. Will you make a donation again this year to give children the chance to walk through mud in rubber boots, hold a crab, or listen to water rushing through a creek? You have the power to change the way they view the world. That is how impactful your gifts are.
Students on The Watershed Project field trips share their experiences:
- “I really enjoyed nature and the time that I spend in the park…it was refreshing and it feels good to be near the sea.”
- “One thing I enjoyed was spending time with my classmates at the beach relaxing and having fun.”
- “I really enjoyed being outside and getting to eat an oyster for the first time.”
- ” I enjoyed that we could actually put in practice what we’ve learned in class into real world action.”
And we invite you to re-energize with us! It’s a great feeling to roll up your sleeves in nature together with friends for a coastal clean-up, making a difference in your own backyard. Come help plant a tree, tend to a rain garden, or clean your shoreline! Check our website for details on an upcoming Second Saturday or Tree Plantings workdays. Have fun as we work together to green our own neighborhoods!
Please join us by making your year-end gift right here. You can make your donation go even further by giving monthly and spreading it out over the year. We all have a stake in our shared San Francisco Watershed as a special place for our communities to thrive, today and for years to come. Any level of gift helps!
Thank you from all of us at The Watershed Project,
Juliana Gonzalez,
Executive Director
