About The Project
*copied from protocols memo*
In 2018-2019, The Watershed Project was awarded over $28,000 from California ReLeaf
(CalReLeaf) to implement the North Richmond Urban Canopy and Adopt-a-Tree Project. The
Watershed Project was able to plant 50 trees, primarily in the City of Richmond section of the
neighborhood where processes for an Adopt-A-Tree Program were established. However, by
working in partnership with the County Public Works Department during the pilot project, TWP
was able to plant trees in both the public right of way and private front yards, thus establishing a
framework for the continuation of the Adopt-A-Tree Program. Facilitation of planting trees in the
right of way is critical in North Richmond, because lot sizes are small, front yards are small, and
the public right of way typically extends from 5’-0” from the back of the sidewalk as well as the
planting strip between the curb and sidewalk, where they exist. Note that existing sidewalks are
narrow, and there are very few planting strips or sidewalk cut-outs in the neighborhood—too few
to allow for the achievement of tree canopy goals
Adopt-A-Tree 2023
Adopt a tree today and watch your support grow into a cooler, more beautiful, and climate-resilient environment. These trees are more than just nature’s beauty; they are climate change heroes, providing vital shade and cleaning the air. Join us in transforming our urban landscape, enhancing the North Richmond’s beauty, and contributing to a sustainable tomorrow.
