This event is now full. Please check back in April to join us for our Spring monitoring!
Join us for Moonlight Oyster Reef Ball Monitoring at Point Pinole Regional Shoreline!
We are excited to share this event in October! We will have a Moonlight Oyster Reef Ball Monitoring at Point Pinole Regional Shoreline to see and count the oysters on the reef balls and observe their environment.
Over the course of several years, volunteers built 100 reef balls which were deployed in 2013 as
substrate for the native Olympia oyster. Twice a year we go out and survey everything that’s growing on the reef balls, including algae, oysters, and other invertebrates.
Due to the tide schedule in the Fall, we’ll be heading out in the evening, with light from headlamps and the full moon. We provide waders, but you’ll want to dress to stay warm and bring a water bottle. No experience is necessary, but spots are limited so please send an email to
satoko@thewatershedproject.org to RSVP and let us know which day you would like to join. If you have any questions, please contact us at the same email address.
This event is an evening event, and we will hike up to the pier, walk on the mudflat, and squat. If you would like to join this event with children or youth, please consider them and they MUST be
accompanied by an adult and those under 18 require a waiver signed by a legal guardian.
When:
Saturday, October 28th, 5:00PM -9:00PM
Meet:
Point Pinole Regional Shoreline Parking lot.
