Join us on the Richmond Greenway, and celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service with friends, family and neighbors. Be a part of this annual festive and inspiration event!

From 9am – 12pm, we will have a series of volunteer projects at our 6th-8th Street site on the Richmond Greenway, including:

*Habitat restoration and planting,

*Learn how bioswales and rain gardens filter and clean street runoff,

*Remove trash from the Greenway.

To participate – please sign waiver, either day of or download waiver here to bring to event.

mlk, rain garden, harbor 8From 12pm – 2pm, we will join up with hundreds of fellow volunteers for a Martin Luther King Jr. Remembrance Ceremony, Unity Park Ribbon Cutting, free lunch and entertainment at 16th Street and the Richmond Greenway.

-Free refreshments will be provided as you work hard on the Greenway

-We will provide tools, gloves and buckets, but bring your own if you can so everyone has a chance to pitch in. Don’t forget your own reusable water bottle, if you have one!

-Wear comfortable clothing that might get dirty and sturdy closed-toe shoes.

-Children are welcome, but MUST be accompanied by an adult and those under 18 require a waiver signed by a legal guardian.

-This is a great opportunity for school and volunteer groups, but please let us know your group is coming so we can plan our supplies (and snacks!) accordingly.

-Valid for Community Service hours.

-Heavy rain cancels, but we will be out there in the sun, fog, and light drizzle. If it is rainy, it is a great opportunity to see low impact design (bioswales and rain gardens) in action!

Please RSVP for this free event. For more information or waivers, please contact Sharon: sharon@thewatershedproject.org, (510) 665-3430.

Why RSVP for a free event? It helps our organizing team plan for the event, and ensures they will bring enough supplies (gloves, buckets, bags, etc), refreshments, and staff to make the event as successful as possible. Thank you for helping out!

We look forward to seeing you at the on the Richmond Greenway!

mlkHistory of the annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service:

In 1994 Congress designated Martin Luther King Jr. Day as a national day of volunteer service.

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. sought to forge the common ground on which people from all walks of life could join together to address important community issues. The King Day of Service brings together people who might not ordinarily meet, breaks down barriers that have divided us in the past, leads to better understanding and ongoing relationships.
