The Watershed Project is excited to participate in East Bay Gives for the first time this year! Please support us on May 3rd so more students can visit and learn from their local watersheds and shorelines. Thank you, in advance, for joining us!
East Bay Gives is a day of collective support for local nonprofit organizations across Contra Costa and Alameda Counties. This full 24-hour giving event begins precisely at 12AM on Tuesday, May 3, 2016, and continues through 11:59pm, with every hour presenting an opportunity for community members to support their favorite nonprofits. Even more exciting, every one of your individual online donations increases our chances to win hourly competitions and dollar prizes provided by the East Bay Community Foundation. The Watershed Project will participate within the environmental category, check out our East Bay Gives profile page here. Stay tuned for more details on our Facebook and Twitter pages, and please share with your social networks!
Over the last 20 years, we have built many “outdoor classrooms” as part of our restoration projects. With help from countless enthusiastic volunteers we have restored creeks and marshes, built an oyster reef, and cleaned up thousands of pounds of trash from local shorelines. The Watershed Project is dedicated to using these sites as outdoor classrooms for students to gain hands-on science experience. We believe it is critical for students of all ages to learn in the outdoors and feel empowered as they contribute to our stewardship efforts. Students from under-resourced schools may never experience their local shorelines, even if only miles away. By donating through East Bay Gives, you will help us ensure that every one of our students has the opportunity to visit and learn from our outdoor classrooms. Your donation of $30 will help fund one student’s once-in-a-lifetime learning experience!
Over the past school year, we have reached 1,355 students through our elementary and high school education programs. We have led field trips for 750 students to our outdoor classrooms, and with your donation, we will expand our field trip program to provide access to every one of our future watershed stewards!
Thank you to the East Bay Community Foundation for this wonderful opportunity. Please contact carol@thewatershedproject.org if you have any questions about how to participate in East Bay Gives, or if you’d like to make a contribution by mail or offline. We look forward to “seeing you” online on May 3rd, and we thank you, as always, for being a Watershed Steward!
