California Coastal Cleanup Day: celebrating 35 years of volunteers cleaning our creeks and shorelines
As we were gearing up for this year’s Coastal Cleanup Day, Eben Schwartz reminded us of the huge positive impact this day has on the planet. It’s not only about all the trash that we’ve cleaned up over the years, though 25 million pounds is nothing to sneeze at. But the real story is the passion for preserving and protecting our beautiful natural resources that has galvanized over 1.5 million volunteers to pick up and tally plastic trash for over three decades. Check out the Coastal Commission’s collection of photos, stories, data, and fun facts about California Coastal Cleanup Day to …

Green Friday – Get Outside on Black Friday and All Winter with TWP
For the 4th year in a row, REI is closing all of its stores on Black Friday to encourage people to #optoutside. There is a movement to remake Black Friday into Green Friday. 30 Day Trash Pickup Challenge: Bringing Coastal Cleanup into our Daily Lives
By Lauren Woodfill While at the park yesterday, I noticed an all too familiar sight. In between giggling kids rolling in the grass, friends enjoying the summer sun, and families, trash echoed the past park goers. Chip bags floated by my feet, crunching like the snacks they once held, water bottles rolled down paths, and plastic forks speared the dirt. A headless Spiderman action figure lay forgotten next me. With Coastal Cleanup Day coming up next month, I have been thinking more about the litter all around me. While I do not know how long the headless Spiderman will be roaming the …
