Have you heard? This summer, we are transforming the Richmond Greenway at 21st Street! The Watershed Project volunteers and interns have been out there jack hammering and digging a brand-new bioswale as well as continuing work on our existing native plant garden. Excitement is high, but the work is only beginning. We need YOUR help to complete this project!
This stretch of the Greenway was once a neglected city lot, plagued by pooling storm water runoff and a lack of green space for the community. However, one volunteer with a vision set out to make the Greenway more “green,” one native plant at a time. She researched, designed, and enlisted The Watershed Project to help her plant a native plant garden that thrives today.
Despite drought and other challenges, the garden is thriving. But the work is not over.
Only 1/4 of this desolate stretch of land has been planted.
We need your help to fund local youth getting involved in completing the habitat and swale and for purchasing the final materials such as tools and plants.
You can help us reduce stormwater runoff and provide community green space in a place that truly needs it. By donating to our campaign to transform 21st Street, you will help:
- Build a bioswale and rain garden to filter urban runoff and alleviate flooding
- Expand our existing habitat garden, making an attractive green space
- Fund local youth to get involved and learn about their local environments
- Provide greenery and habitat with native, drought-resistant plants
With you, we can make a space for human-powered transportation and a solution for storm water. The 21st Street project is an entryway to a green corridor of gardens, playgrounds, and swales, created by partnerships between multiple non-profits including the Watershed Project, all working with the City of Richmond to revitalize the Greenway and adjacent neighborhoods from 21st Street to 4th Street.
Donate now to help us transform the greenway. Any amount goes a long way!
You may be wondering, “how else can I help?” You can share our cause on social media, talk to your friends, or come out and volunteer. We thank you for your continued support of our organization, and we hope you will join us in transforming the Greenway, as every donation–no matter how small–can make a difference.
