Our Favorite Holiday

EARTH DAY!

By Juliana Gonzalez

Let's celebrate! It's that time of year again. Flowers are blooming, sun is shining, and volunteers are preparing for their favorite holiday: Earth Day. Every year on Earth Day, people from around the world open their doors and step outside to celebrate the natural world and all its beauty.

Earth Day with The Watershed Project this year is all about reducing our plastic footprint on the environment and about doing our part to fight marine debris, one watershed at a time. It is also an opportunity to reflect on our consumption, the amount of trash we throw away, and ways we can be better stewards of our local creeks and shoreline.

Creeks and Shoreline Challenge volunteers will have the chance to learn about the pacific gyre, product stewardship, plastic and Styrofoam impact on local wildlife and water quality. We will take action by removing some of the loads of petroleum-based products that litter the Bay, and will sign a pledge to reduce our plastic and Styrofoam footprint by reducing, recycling, and reusing products made out of these materials.

Take the challenge this Earth Day! Come out with your family, friends and neighbors on Saturday April 25th from 9:00 am - noon to join this major countywide cleanup effort. Together, we can make our environment a healthier place for plants, animals and people.
